Most clinicians finish their training having barely touched OCD. Then a client walks in with intrusive thoughts, relentless doubt, and compulsions that don't respond to the usual anxiety strategies, and there's no clear map for what to do next.

This is DEFINE.

Before you can treat OCD, you have to identify it correctly. Most people wait years for help because their OCD is never properly recognised. That's where the name comes from, and it's where good treatment starts.

Built by Dr Emily O'Leary and Dr Daphne Bryan from more than a decade of specialist practice at The OCD Clinic Brisbane, DEFINE takes what actually works in the room and turns it into training you can use with your very next client.

By the end, you'll assess OCD accurately, tell it apart from the conditions it hides behind, build an exposure hierarchy, and run ERP with confidence, even when the anxiety in the room climbs.

What DEFINE stands for

Six things every clinician needs to treat OCD well:

  • Differential diagnosis
  • Exposure and response prevention
  • Formulation
  • Intervention
  • New learning
  • Evidence-based practice

More than a course

DEFINE isn't a set of videos you watch alone and forget. It's a complete way to build real OCD expertise, and stay supported while you do it.

Learn. Ten focused sessions, each with a teaching video and the full clinical workbook underneath for when you want to go deeper.

Practise. Ready-to-use tools for every session: ERP hierarchies, session planners, scripts, client handouts and worked case vignettes. Not theory to translate later. Things you can take into a session tomorrow.

Connect. Group learning and supervision opportunities with clinicians who treat OCD every day. You won't be doing this alone, which is exactly why you'll actually finish.

Grow. Join an ongoing community of OCD-focused clinicians, with member access to our masterclasses and future training at a discount. Wherever you are in your OCD work, there's a next step.

What Makes it Different

Most OCD training stops at the theory. DEFINE goes further, into the parts other courses leave out.

DEFINE equips clinicians with the knowledge and practical skills required to recognise, assess, formulate and
treat OCD effectively. The program extends beyond protocol-based instruction by teaching clinicians how to make thoughtful clinical decisions, adapt ERP to the individual and respond to the points of stuckness that commonly arise in treatment.

DEFINE presents a formulation-driven and transdiagnostic approach to OCD. We also address something clinicians may find difficult to acknowledge: their own anxiety about conducting exposures. This discomfort can contribute to avoidance, overly cautious treatment and the under-treatment of
OCD.

It teaches clinicians to distinguish OCD from the conditions it can hide behind, including anxiety disorders, autism, psychosis, eating disorders and trauma-related presentations. It hands you the exposure tools ready to use, not just the principles behind them. It addresses the thing clinicians rarely admit: your own anxiety about running exposures. That discomfort is the real reason OCD goes under treated, and we tackle it directly.

You'll finish with a CPD certificate, and the confidence to treat OCD properly rather than refer it on.

Who It's For

Clinical and registered psychologists, provisional psychologists and registrars, and any mental health
clinician who wants to work with OCD rather than pass it along. Whether OCD is new to you or you're
sharpening an existing skill set, DEFINE meets you where you are.
